Buddha Sakyamuni’s teaching flourished in its entire splendour in the ancient Buddhist University of Nalanda. The Buddhist doctrine taught at Nalanda was spread in Tibet by several Indian teachers of this university.
These teachings from Nalanda have been preserved by various Tibetan Buddhist schools, one of which is the Gelugpa School, founded by the Tibetan Master Ven. Lama Tsong-Khapa (fourteenth century).
Ven. Lama Tsong-Khapa and his disciples founded several monasteries which have kept the wholesomeness of the Nalanda Buddhist doctrine, of which the most important are the three great monastic universities of Ganden, Sera and Drepung as well as the monasteries of Gyuto and Gyume.
One of the first projects of the Foundation is the construction in Spain on 5 Buddhist monasteries, Ganden, Sera, Drepung and Gyume Gyuto, where a training program can be followed similar to that carried out in their counterparts in India. |
